Kunst und Identität - Art and Identity

Michelle Ringeisen was born in Benoni, South Africa. In 1991 she moved to Switzerland and has lived in Lax (VS) ever since.

Her art reflects questions of identity, particularly in connection with her origins and childhood during the apartheid era. She explores elements that connect people of different cultures and origins globally.

Fascinated by the African Ubuntu philosophy, she is convinced that our identity is shaped through the way we interact with animals, nature and other people. Another aspect of her work is inspired by the tribal art of the Ndebele. The use of colourful, geometric and symbolic illustrations is a tribute to the Ndebele women artists and a personal form of meditation.

Michelle is a member of the Swiss Society of Female Artists, SGBK. In addition to regular exhibitions, she offers painting courses for adults and children in her own artstudio in Lax and at the Zeughaus Kultur in Brig.
